On Sunday June 24, Units from Company 11 was dispatched to a reported Water Rescue on the Potomac River in the area of Dam 3. Jefferson County Wv units were already enroute.
With Boats launched, crews from Jefferson county found 1 victim on the West Virginia Shoreline and a report the second victim to be on the Maryland Shoreline. Support 11-7 (Capt. Payne) proceeded up stream from Lock 34 where the second victim was found. Having all victims accounted for, all Boats vegain returning to shore. While Support 11-7 was transporting the Maryland shore victim to the ” Point” in Harpers Ferry Wv to reunite both victims, Capt. 11 was flagged down by a tuber reporting he was a part of a group of tubers that are now missing.
Command was advised of the situation and a new incident was started. Both Boat 11-1 & Jefferson Boat 7 still proceededing down stream, re-directed to the area between the Route 340 Bridge and Weverton and begain searching both the Maryland & West Virginia shorelines.
Utility 11 while searching the Towpath on the Maryland shore came across a group of tubers. After verifying the identities of the group, it was confirmed that they were infact the missing tubers. Units remained inplace until all Boats were clear of the water and all personnal were accounted for.
This is a typical weekend for company 11 and mutual aid companies during the summer with both the Potomac River and the Shenandoah River.
