On behalf of the men & women of the Potomac Valley Fire Company, I would like to welcome you to the Potomac Valley Fire Company Website.
Inside you will find information about our services, members, operations and news for our community. I hope you enjoy our site and stop in often to see what's new with the PVFC and to see what is happening around your community.
The Potomac Valley Fire Company has been serving the citizens of Southern Washington County with a group of dedicated volunteers since 1966. Thanks to the support of the community and the pride and dedication of our members over the years, The Potomac Valley Fire Company has remained 100% volunteer. The support of our community and the dedication of our members have created an organization that we can all be proud of.
There are a number of factors facing us this year. One factor we are faced with is our shrinking budget. The Potomac Valley Fire Company receives very limited funding from the state and county government. This funding has continued to decrease over the last few years and has led us to rely heavily on the generosity of our community with their continued support of our fund raisers and their donations.
Another factor facing us is the declining numbers of active volunteers nationwide while at the same time the number of emergency call's are on the rise. As your Fire Chief, my priorities are to continue the commitment of providing quality facilities, apparatus, training, and equipment while operating under the limited budget we have, so our volunteers have what they need to perform the services our community needs and deserve. The recruitment of new members and the retaining of our current volunteers is another priority over the next few years. The Potomac Valley Fire Company applied and was awarded the Department of Homeland Security SAFER Grant. This grant provides funding to help recruit new members and retain current members. Having received this funding through the SAFER grant has allowed the Potomac Valley Fire Company to initiate numerous programs to help recruit and retain members
The Potomac Valley Fire Company currently has 30 active members that range from responding members who handle emergency calls to administrative and support staff who handle the administrative, fund raising and support duties.
