Working Code on the River

This afternoon Jefferson County WV units were dispatched to the area of the Potomac River for a Medical Emergency. Before  arrival of Jefferson  County Units,  it was was upgraded to a “Working Code” in the are of Lock 33 and the Train Bridge on the Potomac River in Company 11s (Potomac Valley) area .

Boat Support 11w/BT 20-11 responded with 3 personnel. Arriving at Lock 34 and preparing to launch Boat 20-11, additional information reported  CPR inprogress and Patient located on the rocks by the train bridge. Deputy Chief 11 (Otzelberger Jr) established the “Potomac River Command ” and Boat 20-11 launched and proceeded towards the bridge, arriving in less than 2 minutes.

Upon arrival, Bt 20-11 advised of a Working Code and CPR inprogress by bystanders. A quick decision was made to ” Load and Go” by Boat 20-11,  where the patient was loaded onto Boat 20-11 where CPR continued during the 2 minute trip to the “Point” in Harpers Ferry Wv where a Jefferson County Medic Unit was standing by. The Patient was transferred from Boat 20-11 to the waiting Medic Unit, where treatment continued and the patient was transported to a local hospital.

Having the Patient turned over for transport, Boat 20-11 and 20-01 who backed up Boat 20-11 proceeded back to Lock 34. Once all Boats were off the water, “Potomac River Command ” was terminated and all units went inservice.
